The Great Fleece: Creating a Transparent Window Effect

In today’s article, I will go over making a transparent window out of the object on the left in the picture below.

Element 3 is being used for the actual glass part of the window. The first thought that may come to mind would be to open up the Albedo channel for the Plain 2 material and move the Alpha channel to be more transparent. However, trying that below shows that it will not work that way.

What I do is create a new material called Glass_mat and set the Rendering Mode to Transparent. After that, I move the new Glass_mat into Element 3. Then, if I open the Albedo for the Glass_mat and move the Alpha channel, the glass becomes more transparent.

To give the glass some reflection, I need to increase the Smoothness of the Glass-mat material.

The reflection is easy to see as the smoothness of the material is increased.

That is the basics of making a transparent window for a game. Anyone can use the basic steps for other objects as well.

I hope you found this article interesting and until next time, I wish you well on your coding journey.
